Last week there was flooding in and around Uppsala.
On April 8 the Fyris river (Fyrisån) in Uppsala looked like this:
Then there was a bit more snow.
Then some rain and the resulting flooding.
Normally there is a whole board-walk here. You can see one of the posts.
Where the people was sitting was flooded at one point.
The roads on either side of the river were closed for a week because of the risk of flooding.
Happily, this restaurant is no longer under water.
Trains to Stockholm were stopped for a while because of the impromptu lakes. There was probably a metre between the train track and the water when I went to Stockholm the day after the trains started running again. This picture was taken right out my window.
After talking with some Swedes, I found out that this never happens, at least not this bad. Apparently, I survived one of the longest winters on record.
Yesterday (April 30) was Valborg where Swedes celebrate the start of spring. It was about 9C, feeling much colder, with a mix of sun and pouring rain.
While there are no leaves on the trees, the flowers are starting to bloom!
A post on my weekend in Copenhagen and Valborg to come, hopefully soon.
Haha, clearly you picked the best year to go.
